I’m LisaMarie Falcone, at age 11 I walked into my house after school and told my parents I didn’t want to eat meat anymore. This was the 90’s and my family is VERY ITALIAN, not eating meatballs and mozzarella is a sin! I don’t remember much of their reaction, but do remember that they said no. I was stubborn though.

After many nights with my dad, me, and a piece of steak left at the dinner table ( which I would sneak to my dog when he wasn’t looking), they finally caved in. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing, and I relied heavily on macaroni, soy nuggets, and this soy protein shake (made with soy ice cream and milk) as my main food sources.

A little while into my journey I became anorexic, and developed terrible acne. I experienced lethargy, dark circles under my eyes, and I would have to carry candy with me because I would get dizzy all the time from blood sugar imbalances.

I worried that I would have to go back to eating meat because I honestly felt terrible all of the time. At what cost would this lifestyle come?

At around 25, my health was getting worse. I started having major gut issues and I couldn’t control my acne. I was struggling to keep up with my lifestyle and was tired all of the time. I sought out a nutritionist and she changed my life forever. She was the first medical professional who asked me what I was eating. She helped to show me the connection of what I was putting in my body and how I was feeling.

She taught me how to eat. Since then, I knew I wanted to help people with their nutrition and I spent years studying holistic nutrition. I became a Certified Transformational Nutrition Coach, and studied functional gut health. In 2018 I started The Hungry Hippie, a vegan meal delivery service and circled back to my passion for plant based eating.

To get a better understanding of what people wanted from The Hungry Hippie I stated to spend a lot of time in vegan Facebook groups. I noticed a lot of the same issues being brought up in every group. From weight gain, to which supplements are needed, to is soy good for you. The problem is, everyone in those groups have different opinions based on their personal experiences - not only is this confusing, but can leave you frustrated and unhealthy.
